Setting up NCSA httpd for Windows

The server kit comes as a (large) ZIP file. To set up the software, perform the following two steps:

  1. Unzip the kit onto a floppy disk or into a temporary directory.

Use PKUNZIP (2.04g or later) to uncompress the setup kit files. You may place them into a temporary directory on your hard disk, or put them onto a floppy disk, thus creating a "setup disk" that may be used to easily install the server on several machines. You should probably save a copy of the original ZIP file so you won't have to download it again if something goes wrong.

  2. Run the setup program and follow the instructions on the screen.

It is strongly suggested that you use the default directory suggested by the setup program. If you install the program into a different directory, you will have to edit several of the configuration files, adding to your chances for failure.

Once the setup program is finished, you may delete the installation files from the temporary directory (if applicable).
